Do you want to learn Arabic just like a native speaker? Are you afraid from the Arabic grammar you don’t know from where you start? Are you looking for the best and easiest methods to speak and write Arabic for the shortest time possible? For this reason, I am going to reveal 5 simple tips to help you reach your goals by learning Arabic like a native.
These steps are the results of my own experience in learning English and French. I know how it feels to learn a new language from scratch. It took me years and a lot of hard work to come up with these tips. If you implement these tips, you are going to shorten your path to reach Arabic fluency. Let’s get started.
Step 1. Use real materials
This is your starting point. This is the first step to get into the Arabic language. What do I mean by a real material? Simply, it is a material used by native speakers in their daily life. For example: movies, newspapers, books, stories, articles, YouTube videos…. All these materials are considered as REAL ones. Your job is to pick one of these and use it to learn Arabic.
Don’t worry! I will explain in the coming steps how to do that in details, but from now, get it through your head: you will learn Arabic by using real materials.
Step 2. Divide the real material into small parts
Let’s say you’ve got a 2-hour Arabic movie as your real material. It would be impossible to use all of it in one time, so what should you do? First, you are going to divide it into small parts. Taking the 2-hour movie as an example, you are going to divide it for 20 parts, each part has 6 minutes long. The duration of each part depends entirely on your Arabic level. Consequently, here is my recommendation to help you choose the appropriate duration of the real material:
- Beginner Level: 30 seconds to 1 minute
- Intermediate level: From 1 minute to 3 minutes
- Advanced Level: From 3 minute to 6 minutes
If the real material you chose is a book, an article, or a story:
- Beginner Level: less than 50 Arabic words
- Intermediate Level: 50 to 100 Arabic words
- Advanced Level: 100 to 200 Arabic words
Step 3. Understand the real material
First, never learn form something you don’t understand. That’s why you have to know the meaning of the real material in your own language. for instance, use a dictionary, google translate, or get a help of friend. It doesn’t matter how you do it. What matter is that you must comprehend the meaning of each word and sentence that exist in your real material. taking the example of our 6-minute movie part, you must understand all the Arabic words that exist in the movie part.
Step 4. Listen, Write, & Speak the real material
This Is Where the Fun Begins. If you want to UNSERSTAND Arabic, you need to LISTEN to Arabic. If your goal is to learn how to WRITE in Arabic, then you must practice WRITING in Arabic. Identically, in order to SPEAK Arabic, you must SPEAK Arabic. Therefore, you are going to do the listening, the writing, and the speaking by using the real material that you picked. Doesn’t ring a bell? No big deal. Let’s take our movie part as an example to show the actions you are going to do.
You’ve got your 6 minutes part and you know the meaning of every word. Now, you are going to do the following:
- Relax, hit the play button, and listen to the 6-minute movie part. Remember! You already know the meaning of every word.
- take a piece of paper and start writing the 6-minute movie part by your hand.
- Hit the play button again, and after each sentence or each word, pause and try to speak the Arabic words and sentences loudly by yourself.
You are going to do all these things in one day. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It is mandatory to speak Arabic regardless of how bad you sound. You don’t have to be ashamed. Just speak what you have heard in the real material. This is the only way for your brain and your tongue to get used to the Arabic language.
Step 5. Repetition
Finally, we land on our last step which I consider the core of our system. Unfortunately, just listening, writing and speaking for one time is not enough. That’s why you need repetition. You are going to repeat what you did in the step 4. The purpose of repetition is to give your brain the time to digest all the new vocabularies that you have learned in the real material. As a result, you are going to repeat listening, writing, and speaking the real material for at least 1 week before you move to another material (the 6-movie part in our example).
This is probably the most important step in the system. It is also called the Deep Learning Approach. Every time you repeat listening, your understanding skills improve. Each time you write in Arabic, you writing skills improve. Identically, every time you speak Arabic, your speaking skills improve. When you complete this step, you will never forget the new vocabulary that you have learned in the real material. you will be able to use them naturally and confidently in your conversations. So please don’t skip this step.
Important Tip
One last tip I want to share is that you need to choose the real material that INTEREST YOU. You can see that repetition is a key factor to succeed in this system, but on the other hand, repeating the same thing many times is boring. As a result, it is important to choose a material that interest you in order to overcome this boredom and makes you continue repeating and sticking with the real material for at least one week.
For instance, if you love sports, choose a material that talks about sport (sport videos, sport articles…. etc.). If you are interested in stories, then choose stories as your real material. I hope you got the point.

You learn Arabic naturally and effortlessly. You don’t need to study the complicated grammar rules that you have heard of. If you follow these steps, you will be amazed by the results you will get.
